People are amazing!

Last evening on the was back to the albergue I was walking up the hill and my knee just decided to rebel and have some problems. It was the first time in a while I have had this happen. So as I started hiking in the morning, up quite the steep hill, it became apparent to me that I would have to stop much earlier then planned. So I told Susannah that she should probably move ahead since it would take me a while and that I would have to be stopping at the very first place and call it a day. I won’t lie, I was a bit upset. More because I have been doing so well walking and now that it is less then 100 kilometers to go I had been looking forward to making it into Santiago with people I have grown to love and admire. Well a few minutes later some of the guys we have been walking with at times came up the trail behind us. As soon as they heard what was happening I was immediately relieved of my backpack. It really made a difference. So I was prepared to send it by taxi ahead of me so I could continue on. Well, I was promptly told no. “This is camino!” “We carry for you, you keep walking. Together we finish.” People really are wonderful. So needless to say my pack was carried for 20 of the 24 kilometers we walked. Susannah did a special wrap on my knee and between the two things I was able to continue on with my friends. I still can’t believe I have met such wonderful people!
